Take a stroll along the sidewalks rimming the streets of Hammond’s Ferry. Say hello to neighbors at one of the beautifully landscaped neighborhood greens. Bike along the local loop of the North Augusta Greeneway. Celebrate the wild and beautiful Savannah River by canoeing along its banks or joining one of the local conservation groups.
The public park (Riverfront Park) at the center of Riverfront Square is an ideal place to meet up with friends or relax under a tree with a picnic lunch. Hammond’s Ferry includes plenty of intimate parks and squares—ideal places for chance encounters with your new neighbors.
The City of North Augusta is dedicated to preserving its open space. There are approximately 17 city parks and activity areas, as well as equestrian centers and bike paths—all within a few miles of Hammond’s Ferry.
Golfers will enjoy The River Golf Club, described as a “gem” and “a sterling example of how golf can enhance a local environment” by Golf Digest.
Designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architect Jim Fazio, the course combines a fantastic layout with a spectacular setting along the Savannah River. Best of all, it’s located adjacent to Hammond’s Ferry.
Also located a short walking or bicycling distance from the neighborhood is Riverview Park, a 150-acre park with soccer fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic areas, and an 18-hole disc-golf course. The park’s 94,000-square-foot activities center includes an indoor track, weight and fitness areas, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, and meeting rooms.
Naturalists will enjoy miles of scenic canoeing and kayaking along the river. Just a few of the animals found along the Savannah River include otter, beaver, mink, fox, white-tailed deer, and a diversity of reptiles and amphibians. Fisherman will appreciate the abundant populations of striped bass and other fish. Bird watchers might catch a glimpse of wood storks, Canada geese, tundra swans, pheasants, and bald eagles.
