SURVEY OF NORTH AUGUSTA GREENEWAY WILL DETERMINE PROFILE OF USERS Author: Harry Lassiter Publisher: The Lassiter Company 08/17/2006 Email: harry@thelassitercompany.com Website: www.hammondsferry.com SURVEY OF NORTH AUGUSTA GREENEWAY WILL DETERMINE PROFILE OF USERS, FREQUENCY OF USE AND ATTITUDES ABOUT FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT North Augusta, South Carolina…The Greeneway Trail, one of the most scenic and popular destinations for walkers and bikers in the North Augusta area, will be the focus of a survey being undertaken this month. Sponsored by the City of North Augusta and Hammonds Ferry, the survey will be conducted by Holley Madden, an experienced market researcher based in Augusta. Ms. Madden previously conducted a series of surveys for the Augusta Canal Authority in conjunction with the Alliance of National Heritage Areas. She is a native Augustan/ North Augustan with a long history of familiarity with the area. The goal of the Greeneway survey is to reach out to the many users of the trail to ascertain their reasons for using it, what they most enjoy about it, how they see it being improved as a public amenity and their thoughts about future development there. Ms. Madden will be stationed at various high-trafficked locations on the trail and will engage passers-by on-site with a simple questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to elicit direct responses. Interviewees will be asked to identify where they live, frequency and reasons for using the Greeneway and required travel time to reach it. A series of questions will be posed regarding the desirability of future development of the Greeneway, particularly relating to retail and restaurant businesses. They will also be queried about their impressions of North Augusta as a place to live and any plans they have for relocating there. Finally, they will be asked about their awareness of Hammond’s Ferry, the new traditional neighborhood community being developed nearby. North Augusta Mayor Lark Jones sees the Greeneway survey as a good example of positive public outreach. "The Greeneway has been a cherished destination for our citizens for over 10 years. This survey will keep us in touch with the many and diverse users of the Greeneway. The City wants to hear the voice of the users regarding what they find most appealing and what improvements they would like to see." Charlie Walker, Director of Sales for Hammond’s Ferry, adds, “The Greeneway is inextricably linked to the new Hammond’s Ferry community and is a real draw for the homeowners there. We’re committed to maintaining all its special attributes while developing it with the appropriate retail and commercial spaces interspersed with numerous small parks that will line the riverfront.” |
